Plant Watering & Irrigation Guide – Berry Springs Farmstay
Our plants, fruit trees, and gardens are an important part of life at Berry Springs Farmstay.
To keep everything healthy and thriving, please follow these watering and irrigation guidelines carefully.
General Watering Principles
Water is precious — our property relies on bore water and solar systems, so please use it wisely and sparingly.
Water plants early in the morning or late afternoon to reduce evaporation and make the most of every drop.
Focus watering on roots, not leaves, for better absorption and plant health.
Manual Watering
-
Use a hose or watering can where irrigation lines don’t reach.
-
Always turn the tap off completely after use to prevent leaks or pressure loss.
-
Make sure hoses are not left running or dripping, and never left lying across walkways or driveways.
-
Avoid spraying water near electrical points, solar panels, or the pool area.
Irrigation System Use
-
Automatic irrigation lines may be connected to timers or manual switches.
-
If unsure how to operate them, please ask the caretaker before adjusting anything.
-
Check that sprinklers and drip lines are not blocked, broken, or flooding an area.
-
Report any leaks, pressure drops, or broken fittings immediately to prevent water waste.
Garden & Orchard Areas
Water fruit trees, herbs, and garden beds at the base of the plants, ensuring even coverage.
Most fruit trees need deep watering twice a week during the dry season, and less during the wet.
Avoid watering during the hottest part of the day — it wastes water and can harm plant roots.
Be gentle around flower beds — they support pollinators vital to our garden’s ecosystem.
☀️ Dry Season Awareness
During the dry season, water conservation becomes critical.
Only water plants that truly need it and avoid unnecessary irrigation of grassed areas.
Coordinate watering times with others to prevent overlap or overuse.
Pots & Small Plants
-
Potted plants dry out faster and need more frequent attention.
-
Water slowly until the soil is evenly moist, allowing excess to drain.
-
Move delicate potted plants into shaded areas on extremely hot days.
Common Sense & Care
✅ Always double-check that taps are off before leaving.
✅ Report any malfunctioning sprinklers, leaking hoses, or flooded areas to the caretaker or owner.
