⚡ Storm Safety at Berry Springs Farmstay
In the tropics, storms can arrive suddenly with strong winds and lightning.
All residents and helpers must unplug all electrical devices — ask the caretakers to unplug the bore pump and any other pumps — and secure outdoor items before a storm. After the storm, caretakers check on the animals, fencing, and shelters to ensure their safety. 🐾
Everyone is responsible for protecting their belongings, and the owner is not liable for damaged or broken electrical equipment.
By staying alert and prepared, we keep the property — and our animals — safe. 🌿🌧️
Living in the Northern Territory means enjoying tropical beauty — and occasionally facing powerful storms. At Berry Springs Farmstay, your safety and the wellbeing of our animals come first. Please take a few minutes to read these important guidelines.
Tropical storms are part of life in the Top End — by staying alert and prepared, you help protect yourself, others, and the animals who share our home.
Thank you for following the Berry Springs Farmstay safety procedures.
Berry Springs experiences tropical storms during the Wet Season (November–April), often bringing:
Heavy rain and flash flooding
Strong winds and lightning
Power outages
Falling branches and debris
Always check the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) for weather warnings:

Always unplug all electrical devices — especially pumps, the bore, and outdoor equipment — before a storm arrives. 🌩️🔌
Residents and helpers are fully responsible for unplugging and protecting electrical items.
Please note that the owner cannot replace or reimburse any damaged or broken electrical devices. 🌿
Secure Animals & Property
Ensure all animals are sheltered:
Dogs and small pets should stay inside or in safe, enclosed areas.
Close gates and secure feed bins and loose items that may fly away.
Avoid entering the paddocks until conditions are safe.
If it’s safe and time allows, move feed, tools, and lightweight objects to covered areas.
Prepare for Power Outages
Use your torch and solar lights.
Unplug electronic devices to prevent damage from power surges.
Keep the fridge and freezer closed as much as possible to preserve food.
Stay Indoors
Remain inside the house or demountable — do not go outside until the storm passes.
Close all windows, doors, and curtains.
Avoid using wired electrical appliances during lightning.
Keep mobile phones charged for emergency communication.
Use torches instead of candles to avoid fire hazards.
Safety First
Do not touch fallen power lines or trees leaning on wires.
Report any damage to fences, roofs, or water systems to management immediately.
Watch for snakes or injured wildlife seeking shelter after heavy rain.
Avoid walking through flooded areas — water may conceal sharp debris or unstable ground.
Clean-Up
Once the all-clear is given, help tidy fallen branches, leaves, and debris.
Disinfect tools and wash hands after handling debris.
Refill water bowls for animals with clean water — stormwater can be contaminated.
